We went to Phu Thap Buek on our way back from a trip from Issan and were not disappointed.
The drive to the top is along alpine like roads and very steep with lots of hairpin bends, when you get to the top there are a lot of small resorts to stay all very reasonably priced and many are cabin style accommodation.... with great views.
The top of the mountain is 1,768 metres high and is famous for growing cabbages!... fields and fields of them.
We only stayed one night but found it such a relaxing place next time we will stay for maybe three days.... just to chill out and take in the fantastic views and clean air.
The inhabitants are from the Hmong tribe and many of the locals have stalls selling local handicrafts and produce such as strawberries, fresh and in jam form as well as bottles of strawberry brandy. Locally made clothes are also available and are very colourful and not expensive.
If you can wake up early in the morning you will see a great sun rise which makes for some great photos.
There is not much to do at the top of the hill but for just chilling out on your balcony or terrace with a cold beer or cup of coffee you can not beat it.
if you don't fancy taking your own car up to the top there are frequent local taxis that will take you to the top.... note tour buses are not allowed to drive to the top and must park at the bottom, so if your on a tour you will have to use one of the many pick up truck taxis.
A great place to visit and the highest point in Phetchabun province..
