WHO does not recommend travel restrictions with regards to MERS-CoV, but rather to raise awareness among
travellers to and from affected countries. EU citizens travelling to Middle Eastern countries, in particular Saudi
Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, need to be made aware that MERS-CoV is circulating in these areas and
should be reminded of the importance of good hand and food hygiene, and to avoid contact with sick people.
This is particularly important for travellers with pre-existing medical conditions. Travellers to the Arabian
Peninsula should avoid close contact with camels, visiting farms and consuming unpasteurised camel milk, urine
or raw or under-cooked meat.
