There are clear lessons for those involved in the education of beginning science
teachers. Alongside these course changes, the next phase of our research will be to
study the relationship between understandings, beliefs and practice more fully. This
will involve classroom observation and the use of digital video. The challenges are
great but if science education is to move forward in its aspirations to reflect a more
highly developed view of NOS then ITE must clearly seek to play its part as fully as
possible.
