Columns were also inserted in the methodology analysis
section as, with each new paper reviewed, methodological
issues were identified. For example, whilst almost all interviews
were undertaken following discharge from the critical
care unit there was considerable variation in the timing,
location and nature of the interviews. Thus the details of this
were revisited in the studies as this variation came to light.
The process of reviewing the findings along side the methodology
and design allowed distillation of methodological and
empirical issues within the studies. These are considered
further in Section ‘‘Discussion’’.
