It looks like Belinda and I are going to create a Hertzsprung-Russell diagram using star data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We are currently trying to figure out what data we need to download from the databases, and we're also debating how many stars to take into account. It also appears that SDSS only collects apparent magnitudes of stars, not their distances. To get data for the distances of the stars, we need to access data collected by the Hipparcos and Tycho experiments. Unfortunately, just searching the data archives looks relatively complicated, so I'm currently trying to figure out how to get data for the same stars from both the SDSS and Hipparcos databases.
