Educating the custodians of the environment
Educating local communities is a very effective tool for implementing environmentally responsible practices in countries where concepts like sustainability may be foreign. Teaching nondestructive farming techniques, responsible lumber harvest and low-impact development preserves the environment while increasing the quality of life for the people living there. Many businesses profit off of the rich natural resources developing countries have to offer, so it makes good sense that investments should be made to protect the community and habitats surrounding the operation. Local communities and villages are empowered through these efforts to serve as true stewards of the land, becoming the framework supporting the local environment.
