In order to induce the formation of fecal pellets, the feed of the culture diet was designed in such a way that it contained as much as possible algal compounds of different shapes and functional fibers of different length to allow compression of the waste into a sinking fecal
pellet (Fig. 5). This natural solution of concentrating waste resulted in a transparent water column and accumulation of fecal material at the bottom that could easily be flushed out of the conical tank on a daily basis. During the culture period there was no increase in the bacterial
numbers measured in the water column despite the three times increase in rotifers numbers. This means that clean rotifers can be harvested, irrespective of the age of the culture without taking any supplementary cleaning or disinfection actions.Providing healthy and clean
