One of the objectives of this study was to adapt the SERVQUAL survey instrument for the professional sport context. To this end, SERVQUAL items were altered and new items were added to reflect the multifaceted nature of this service experience. Assessments of the reliability of this adapted instrument indicate that items on the subscales were internally consistent. The validity of the instrument was tested utilizing factor analysis with Varimax rotation. Some of the items did not load on the same component when compared with prior studies across different types of services Additionally, this analysis questions the validity of SERVQUAL’s five distinct components, which is consistent with previous research. The results of the reliability analysis in this study were consistent with previous studies. Thus, while the SERVQUAL items appear to hold together well in their pre-established subscales, the dimensionality of these five subscales continues to be suspect.
