He did die. I've read like two or three articles. The man who recovered his body, Omar, said he died off of oxygen poisoning. Yuri was apparently chasing the nitrogen high you get when you dive like at 60 meters, I gathered that from what I've been reading. Problem is nitrogen makes you disoriented and confused, so it's very very dangerous. And you should never dive alone.
It also seems that his vest ripped open, and he had way too much weight in his belt, he was too heavy to float up, also, apparently he was using compressed air instead of a mixture...
I'm gonna keep on reading, maybe I got some info wrong. This is going to be a reminder for me to never be irresponsible since I want to learn to free dive. And I hope others learn from this, too. Senseless deaths are the worst.
