The influential
Information Power guidelines for school library media programs released by the American
Association of School Libraries (AASL) describe collaboration as “a key theme in building
partnerships for learning” (American Association of School Librarians, 1998, p. 50). A number of
studies have connected teacher/librarian collaboration with increased student achievement (e.g.
Achterman, 2008; Lance, Rodney, & Russell, 2007), suggesting that there are significant benefits for
schools that facilitate this collaboration.
