- I will focus on teaching the language - grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary - which ended up boring and not all that helpful. My ESL accelerated greatly when I started taking college classes in English where English itself was not the primary focus.
- I think the kids need to be speaking as much as they can in the next couple of months, which means they will be in some specific situations. Can you act out these situations? I think that would be the most helpful to them. (As an example, I wish my ESL teachers would have taken us places and helped us do stuff we needed to do anyway, like buy stuff at the grocery store, get books at the library, etc).
- Many of them know vocabulary and grammar but they can't use it in oral speech. The problem is the lack of communicative skills and practice.I think that teachers should pay more attention to communicative practice. Of course the best way to get communicative skills is the practice with English-speaking people but if he don't have this opportunity discussion at the lessons is the best solution. I often use discussions at my English lessons and students like it very much. Usually I choose the topic of our discussion that is interesting for them or connected with their future profession. I ask questions and listen to their points of view or I divide them into micro groups and they make pros and cons of some problem. I try every student to involve in the discussion though they have different levels of knowledge and communicative skills because I want them all to speak English well .
