Phenolics, including isoflavones, widely distributed in plants,have received much attention and were recognized as the most
abundant antioxidants in the human diet. As antioxidants,phenolic compounds prevent or control the formation of free radicals with deleterious health effects and are therefore important to reduce the risk of chronic diseases. They have also been shown to render positive effects on certain types of cancer, including cancer of the stomach, colon, prostate, and breast as well as cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and various inflammatory disorders.
