Approximately 16,000 deaths a year are attributed to tobacco (Peto, Lopez, Boreham, & Thun, 2012); 36.9% of the population ages 15 to 64 years use tobacco (41.3% of men and 32.3% of women), and 24.5% of the population over the age of 15 years are daily smokers (WHO, 2013). This study describes the impact of efforts to educate nurses in the Czech Republic about implementing smoking cessation interventions in clinical practice using a train-the-trainer approach.
