Abstract: he sociology of tourism is as yet an ongoing iterprise. Since
there is no universally accepted sociological perspectiv it follows th
thot!gan.of tourism:" In order to substantiat
claim, the authors trace the development of sociological theory and the
emergence of a variety of approaches. Differences in perspectivt
lead to alternative ways of4iii'eeptualizing tourism. They are also condu-
cive to the stressing of a number of themes and to the omission of others.
In various ways, they collectively contribute to a furtherance of a sociolog-
ical understanding of the multifaceted phenomenon of tourism. Key-
words: sociological theory, sociological perspectives, evolutionary, neo-
Durkheimian, conflict/critical, functionalist, phenomenological,
ethnomethodological, symbolic interactionist.
Resume: Sociologic et tourisme. La sociologic du tourisme est encore une
entreprise en cours. Puisqu'il n'y a pas une perspective sociologique qui
soit acceptee de tout le monde, it s'ensuit qu'on ne peut pas parler dune
seule et unique "sociologic du tourisme". Afin de justifier une telle affir-
mation, les auteurs resument le developpement de la theorie sociologique
et la naissance de plusieurs perspectives. Les diffefentes perspectives me-
nent a leur tour a plusieurs fawns de conceptualiser le tourisme. Ces
perspectives entrainent aussi l'accentuation d'un certain nombre de sujets
et ]'omission d'autres sujets. Chaque pefspective contribue done a sa facon
a favancement general de la comprehension sociologique des nombreux
aspects du phenomene du tourisme. Mots-cles: theorie sociologique, per-
