Hello! (-: My name is Chris, and I live in Hawaii. I grew up in Norway, but I became a U.S. citizen several years ago.
What is important to me is that you are honest, intelligent, have a good sense of humor, open to learning - open to new ideas, and appreciate and care about nature (including animals). I am, in many ways, quite different from the typical Western person - I am often more comfortable with Eastern ways of thinking, and living in Hawaii - near the center of the Pacific Ocean - seems to suit me very well. There are good aspects of both Western and Eastern culture and ideas, and here there is exposure to both. I love animals, especially dogs. After planning for over 10 years, I recently bought a farm on Hawaii Island, and although I plan to mostly grow nut and fruit trees (including lots of avocado trees), I will probably also get at least one horse, a couple of goats, and perhaps a cow or two. ☺ Additionally, I also manage investments for myself and a few clients, as I have done for many years.
Would be nice to meet a woman who cares not only about humans, but all sentient beings in general given that we are only one of countless animal species, not a special type of creature that stands above and apart from the rest of nature.
I should point out that I do not follow any religion. I see Buddhism as a philosophy, a set of helpful methods and ideas, and out of all the well-known systems of thought, I feel most at home with Buddhist teachings. I can be described as highly spiritual - I feel a deep connection with and appreciation of nature and the Universe. I can walk in the mountains, stand in the forest, or sit quietly by the ocean and get tears in my eyes just experiencing nature and the considering the mystery of existence - how strange and amazing the universe is, and how amazing it is that we even exist at all.
I try to take very good care of my health by eating well (most of the time, not all the time!), exercise, using several natural supplements (plant/fruit/vegetable extracts), and working on feeling content and at peace by doing meditation practice.
Also, I usually think in a very logical way, and normally notice illogical thinking instantly. Related to that, it is appropriate to mention that I will not get angry when someone points out that I've made a mistake. If it appears that I was wrong, I will admit it as soon as I understand that I was mistaken. I like truth and clarity in situations where that is possible, and when I am uncertain of something or simply don't know, I make that clear as well. I have no problem saying I do not know something. ☺ I do not like to be around people with a big ego, and try to make sure I also do not have a big ego. :-) If I have good qualities, I consider myself lucky to have them, not proud. I prefer to be humble about such things (after all, I did not create myself). ☺
I have lived in Hawaii since 2008, and I am quite certain I will live here for all of my life; the longer I live here, the more I appreciate Hawaii, and I think in many ways it is one of the very best places in the world to live, at least if not living in Honolulu, but somewhere else in Hawaii that is more peaceful. I live on a different island, 20 minutes north of the second largest city in Hawaii that is called Hilo. It is quite different than Honolulu, more peaceful and friendly. I may eventually also get a small cottage in the countryside in New Zealand in order to spend a few months there from time to time, but I am not sure about it at this time.
Briefly, some of my interests: hiking in the the high mountain forests where the air is cool and fresh, swimming, learning about plants and trees, farming, and reading (topics: astrophysics, physics, psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, history, and many more). I also want to learn wind-surfing in the near future. I have degrees in finance, international business, computer science, and law (my first choice for major was astrophysics, but coming from Norway as an international student, before I became an American citizen, I was restricted to whatever I could get funding for from the Norwegian state, and none of the science majors except computer science was on the list of majors approved for scholarships).
Look forward to hearing from interesting women who hopefully share at least some of my interests. I have many good qualities that the right woman will appreciate.
Hopefully you are in good shape with lots of energy and will want to go walking and exploring with me in the mountains and forests from time to time. ;-)
