Tertiary-review workstations have even lower resolution and computer requirements. Most tertiary review workstations are web-enabled, commercial-off-the-shelf systems (COTS) with special PACS software and perhaps a special monochrome monitor and video interface/driver. The trend in secondary and tertiary review workstations is to use COTS and standard WWW networks in order to avoid the high cost of PACS workstations. (See cost section below). As the tertiary, COTS, and web-based workstations improve, custom secondary workstations will become obsolete because of their high cost.
