In the case of Thailand, Bo Nok has emerged as a different place
in the national and international imagery. Before the controversy,
the place was just another province in Thailand while now it has
turned into a place people still refer to as a major victory for the
environmental movement and an inspiration for national and
international activists alike. It also serves as a reminder to the
Thai government to reconsider the siting of large-scale infrastructural
projects. Moreover, it even opened up the national power
planning process for public discussion, albeit only gradually and
piecemeal.
