Next, an approximation-based multi-objective optimization
was performed based on the hybrid method for three different
cases: manifold optimization and manifold-microchannel optimization
using copper and nickel as the fin and base material. The
optimization results were able to predict the optimum configuration
for all cases. To obtain maximum performance, both the manifold
and microchannel had to be optimized. Comparison of the
optimized manifold-microchannel with a chevron-type plate heat
exchanger, one of the most widely used plate heat exchangers,
showed that the manifold-microchannel overall offers superior
performance in terms of Nusselt number and friction factor compared
to the chevron plate for three different chevron angles
