All of the improved Manawthukha lines carrying the
homozygous Basmati Aromarker allele had fragrant grains. The
positive allele of Aromarker (badh2-B) was perfectly associated
with both the fragrance score and the 2AP content. Consistency
of the sensory score and 2AP content may be semi-quantitative
in nature and result in arbitrary sensory phenotyping of this
trait. Although differences in the 2AP content were observed
among the improved lines, this variation may be caused by
minor genes or environmental factors.
