In dancing, adjustments of weight are happening all the time and even though these can sometimes be almost imperceptible, they must nevertheless be allowed to happen. In ronds de jambe a terre, for example, very slight adjustments to the line of balance and weight bearing over the supporting foot are required as the working leg moves through the various positions, of 4th devant,2nd and 4th derriere. The body should be free to move slightly and change its central line of the balance as the working leg changes its relationship to the body. If the body is help rigidly when performing this exercise the leg will shorten in the hip joint, especially in the derriere placement, and if this is the case the training of arabesque line will be affected.
