What should Tom do next and why?
Students will vary in their responses. Some will recommend that he continue doing what he is doing, but try to avoid criticizing the workers. Over time their perceptions will change. They will embrace his interactive style if it is genuine and helpful. Others may recommend that he call a meeting, confess to getting off on the wrong foot, and explain his motives. While his workers probably will not immediately embrace his MBWA it should quicken acceptance. Some students will question whether Tom is “born to wander” and argue that he should practice a style of managing that is not compatible with his personality. This is an interesting question that can generate considerable debate.
