This polymer family is made of two major groups- aliphatic and aromatic. Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHAs) are alilphatic polymer naturally produced via a microbial process on sugar-based medium, where they act as carbon and energy storage material in bacteria. In the 1980s, a new standard for identifying bacteria began to be developed. In the World laboratories, it was shown that phylogenetic relationships of bacteria could be determined by comparing a stable part of the genetic code. (Woese, et al., 1985; Woo, et al., 2003).
