Working on the cruise ship is also perceived to be a great way to travel the world as cruise ship employees have the opportunity to visit many attractive places in dif- ferent parts of the world (Bow, 2002). Motivation to travel can be seen as a strong intrinsic motivation factor for those choosing to undertake this kind of employment, which is unique to this industry compared to other land based service organisations. However, it is important to note that motivation to travel might not be as important to some employees, especially for those from developing countries where the income to support their families is seen to be their main motivation to work on cruise ships and as for these employees they can earn more money on board cruise ships than in their respective countries (Bow, 2002; Weaver 2005).
