The KFUPM Library CE program, one of the oldest in the Arabian Gulf Region,
offered short courses on current and job related topics twice a year. The courses
attracted enough participants until the late 1990s, but enrolments started to decline
sharply from 2000 Onwards. This was the time when the programs started to move
away from traditional topics to tolpics related to current concepts and trends in LIS
and information technology. Unfortunately, participants found them too advanced
and difficult to understand because of the language problem and, as a result, the
number of participants star:ted to decline. Through interaction with the participants,
and based on their: evaluation of short courses, KFUPM came to know they had
different expectations from these courses. However, the author considers them no
more than reflections of their attitudes toward KFUPM short courses based on the
following problems with the participants.
