Is any of the protagonist in the film blind to or blinded by gender stereotypes?
•Serling is blind to female stereotypes. First shocked when finding out that
Walden is female. Then getting into many versions of Al Kufan story. He was
blinded by male stereotypes. When his own behavior does not live up to the
idealism, he judges himself to be unworthy of the medal—look what he does at
the end of the film.
•Serling is swayed by others’ over-stereotyping when he is told many versions
of the story.
•Monfriez, grown up in a Latin culture, is blind to stereotypes to such an extent
that he was unable to accept the fact that he could not live up to the macho
requirement set by his cultural ideals.
