Smilodon fatalis may have been a more catholic carnivore, both
taking down prey and consuming carcasses already acquired by
other individuals. Models of S. fatalis bite forces suggest they were
relatively weak, approximately one-third those of P. leo [36], and
lower than predicted by its body size [37]. Despite differences in
bite force however, DMTA data are similar between these taxa
and suggest that dietary behavior may have been similar, while
other evidence suggests that prey capture techniques were likely
