3. Results
3.1. Maize hybrid characteristics at harvest
Kernel aw at harvest in the 6 maize hybrids considered in the
study ranged between 0.89 and 0.96. Fungi incidence varied from
74% to 100% (total infection), while Fusaria, morphologically identified
as F. verticillioides, contributed between 58% and 92% to kernel
colonisation. Aspergilli, all belonging to section Flavi, were isolated
only in H14 and H16, with 2% and 6% incidence, respectively
(Table 1). Penicilli were observed occasionally, only in 2% of kernels
of H16; therefore, they were excluded from further analysis.
