Your Royal Highness, I sincerely hope this letter finds Your Royal Highness in good spirits and health. Though we never receive any response from Your Royal Highness or the Royal Household, it is our duty, as your sons, to continue to provide you with our updates. I bring to Your Royal Highness joyous and grave news. Firstly, I have successfully passed my United States medical board exam, and I am now a licensed medical doctor. As Your Royal Highness is aware, when I was thirteen years old I was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type two, which causes benign tumors to grow predominantly in my central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). My condition was the motivating force behind my choice of profession. I had to endure regular MRI scans to monitor new growths, and periodic surgeries to remove tumors, which often interfered with my studies throughout medical school. I am most proud to receive my degree despite these challenges, and I know my trials will make me a better doctor. On a more serious note, I would like to bring to Your Royal Highness’ attention that I will be undergoing a major surgery in December of this year. Last year, during my clinical clerkship as a final year medical student, I often suffered from sudden weakness and tingling on the right side of my body. A routine MRI scan discovered that a tumor (meningioma) was growing on the lining of my brain. The pressure on my brain causes me to have episodes of simple partial seizures. Initially, I had hoped that I would undergo a minimally invasive treatment such as a Gamma Knife procedure that I have had previously. However, further tests and imaging studies made it evident that the meningioma was too large for the Gamma Knife procedure. Proceeding with the Gamma Knife would cause too much swelling, which would cause the brain to be pressed against the skull. Instead, I will undergo open tissue surgery to remove the tumor from my skull. Titanium mesh cranioplasty will replace the invading bone component. This procedure will be more invasive, and carries greater risk than my previous treatments. I will also require an extended recovery time from the procedure. Naturally, I have great concern for this surgery. In the past, before my procedures, I would be quite apprehensive. At times, I felt discouraged due to the uncertainly of my condition. However, now that my exams are behind me, and I have achieved my goal, I am at peace knowing that I can rest in comfort. I do not know how long I will take to recover from this surgery, but I am elated to inform Your Royal Highness, as my father, that I have completed a milestone in becoming a medical doctor. Should I make a full recovery, it is my hope that with my license and my personal experience, I can soon be of use to others in need.
Your Royal Highness, I am pleased to say that all your sons have grown to be gentlemen of quality. My brothers and I are very proud and supportive of each other, which we wish to share with our father. For Juthavachara, after being conferred his Juris Doctor degree, he is working in the corporate aircraft industry in a capacity that uses both his legal and engineering knowledge. Vacharaesom continues to practice law with a major firm in Florida. Being licensed in Florida, District of Columbia and New York, he handles both New York and Florida cases, and provides counseling to international clients. Vatchrawee graduated and received his Juris Doctor over the summer, and is preparing to take the Florida Bar exam. Regardless of the outcome that should befall me, I wish to express that all of us are instilled with a sense of pride to have Your Royal Highness as our father. After seventeen years living abroad, our love for Thailand has only grown deeper. Please know that the four of us remain your loving sons, and are forever at your, and the Royal Household's, service. We hope that one day we will be permitted to return to our homeland so that we may pay respect to our father in person. With continuing loyalty and highest respect,
