Slot time intervals should at least
cover the maximum propagation delay. Swarm missions are
not comparable with standard terrestrial WiFi applications.
For instance, scenario one introduces a propagation delay of
17 ms for 5000 km inter-satellite distances. The optimal slot
time regarding collision ratio or throughput will be
evaluated in Section 5. The parameterization of the
Back-Off procedure depends on the slot time, which
minimizes the collision probability while accessing a shared
medium. A node reduces the collision probability by
sensing a medium for a random amount of slot times.
Furthermore, the RTS/CTS-Handshake can reduce packet
collisions at the expense of control overhead.
