To the extent that LPC latency reflects relative timing of retrieval processes, the effects noted here complement this interpretation. Delayed retrieval was associated with buys under no promotions for High MA; the reverse was true under promotions. In contrast, buys peaked later among Low MA under promotions. Perhaps latency differences reflect retrieval processes related to the presence of a promotion. For example, absent promotion, High MA spend more time making sure they are being offered a good deal. Under promotion, however, High MA alter their memory search criterion if they perceive the price, discount, or both sufficiently acceptable to avoid doing math. The reverse finding for Low MA under promotion indicates a more robust search process to be certain of a good deal.
