My back pain
It was years ago when i suffered my first lower pain attack. I can not even remember how it came about. I thought i had pulled a muscle and i had to walk in a crouched position and the pain was worse every time there was impact like stamping on the floor as i walked. I was in my early 30s so i recovered in a few days and i did not think too much of it, i was too busy for that. Over time the problem started to come back on a regular basis and it took longer to heal until last year when the back pain became permanent and did not shift. I dreaded having a cold as coughing or sneezing on a continuous basis would cause the pain to my lower back and if i had the vomit bug then i had to endure unbearable pain.
I became more and more miserable and simple things like picking up kids if they cried or even trying to concentrate at work which made me even more frustrated and angry. My mother in law came to stay with us last year to help with the kids as my wife was going through some health problems of her own. I tend to bottle things up and my mother in laws` constant nagging and the way she put me and my family down stressed me out to the max, she seemed to be feeding my back pain! I had an investment blog and had money invested in the stock market. The 2008 stock market crash did not help with my stress levels either and i had to give up writing in my blog for a while. My energy level was being sucked out by the negative emotion brought on by what now became permanent back pain and even putting my socks on in the morning made me angry as it involved going through a pain barrier as i bent my legs and back to put the damn things on.
Being a typical bloke i left things too long before i finally decided to do something about it. I went to see the family GP and after tests he told me what i had thought in that i needed to see a physiotherapist. I also did some research on the internet and i came across muscle balance therapy. The testimonials on their website showed people out there who had severe back problems and they were getting better!
The idea that you can get rid of back pain even though the back condition can still be there fascinated me. Two people could have the same back problem and one may feel pain where the other may not! I thought that i was going to end up with a walking stick but it is negative thoughts and emotions like these that cause the problems to get worse.
I bought the videotapes and they taught me that my bad posture, bad habits like lifting and carrying my kids, the sport activities participated in, the way i walked or ran and even my job that involved me sitting on my chair all day was the culprit for my lower back pain. It is amazing that you do not realist this without someone explaining it to you even though it is plain common sense. My body was out of balance and it put pressure, wear and tear on my lower back which caused the physical dysfunctions and hence the back pain.
I also discovered my body posture had a tilt to the left which occurred from the continuous injury to my central lower back, so my body naturally moved to a position of least amount of discomfort. This had steadily been happening for years and i had to correct that position and previous bad body postures before i could finally rid my self of the pain.
When i went to see the physiotherapist my back was on its way to recovery and he got me to do some exercises to loosen up my back which he said was due to scarring from constant injury to the lower back. He gave me some back strengthening exercises a swell to try and prevent future problems. I have found my pain going and my constant use of painkillers have stopped, the videos had helped me treat the cause and not the symptom. I have now also been discharged from my physiotherapist and i have found the best exercise for me is actually biking which i use for work now.
For all those people with back pain, take action, accept it and make the change and i wish you all the best and hopefully a pain free back.
