The hamster pancreas consists of three lobes: gastric,
splenic, and duodenal, and averages 0.46 g of weight
or approximately 0.4–0.5% of total body weight. The
gastric lobe of the pancreas, which comprises approximately
25% of the weight of the pancreas, is attached
to the stomach and pylorus by the mesogastric membrane
formed from the greater omentum. The splenic
lobe, which comprises approximately 40% of the pancreatic
weight, is located caudal to the spleen along the
greater curvature of the glandular stomach. The splenic
lobe has a connective tissue attachment to the cranial
descending colon. The smallest lobe, the duodenal lobe,
comprises approximately 12% of the pancreatic weight
and is enclosed in mesentery between the duodenum
and cranial ascending colon
