Dear Maew,
Thank you for your email. I wonder if there has been some miscommunication as I am not planning to travel to Laos.
Let me give some background information to the research:
The research explores how some aid organisations assist labour migrants in Thailand. For example, some organisations provide advice to migrants about how they should use passports (so they can travel legally), obtain work permits and stay safe when they are in Thailand. I want to talk to some of these programmes about their work. One of these organisations is the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
I also want to talk to some labour migrants from Laos. I want to ask them how they find work in Thailand, and how they stay safe (do they use passports? do they rely on friends to find work? etc). I was wondering if you know any Lao migrants that we could talk to?
A lot of this research can be done in Bangkok. There is a possibility that some travel is needed to Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakahn or possibly around Isaan (Udon Thani), but this depends a bit on the activities of some of the programmes I want to talk to.
Maew, it is perhaps a bit difficult to plan all this before I get to Bangkok. We both need to make sure we can work togehter. You have also told me that you are not sure whether your english is good enough which may be a problem.
I suggest I contact you when I get to Bangkok; we can then discuss in more detail and see if we can work together?
I hope you understand that I cannot guarantee employment before we meet.
Regards,
Sverre
