Ultra rice is a technique, developed by PATH to fortify rice with essential micronutrients like iron which are missing in the diets of resource-poor, rice-consuming populations in developing countries. The technique involves adding iron, zinc, folic acid, or other nutrients that growing bodies need to milled rice flour and then reshaping the mix so that it looka like ordinary rice grains. The micronutrients and blended at a ratio of 1:100. Nutrient-rich Ultra Rice grains can be manufactured to look like local varieties of rice and include the specific mutrients needed by a particular population. Also, Ultra Rice grains are cooked as rice is cooked customarily-requiring no change in food preparation habits
