4. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) This technique involves separation of constituent elements of lipids class. A volume of 10 μl of each LC fraction was applied on silica gel 60G TLC plates. The plates were developed in chromatography tank containing about 100 ml of n-hexane/diethyl ether/acetic acid (80:20:1, v/v/v). After elution and drying using a hair dryer, the TLC plate was sprayed with a mixture of 40% orthophosphoric acid and aqueous solution saturated with copper acetate (1:1, v/v) and then heated at 180 ˚C for 10 minutes in an oven. The lipid spots appeared brownish on a white background.
