How has the Golden Triangle SEZ shaped and changed the border landscape in Tonpheung district, and what has been the impact on local people lives of the new enterprises brought by transnational investment in the SEZs?
Khuan Village, part of rural district with in Golden triangle, an area with shares border in Houay Xai District and capital of Bo Kaeo province. Many households in this village work as farming, supplier goods such as rice, crops, fertilizer to local agency and neighbors. Furthermore, Thai people come and buy direct from their house that increasing income year by year. According to the head of village, they earn an average of more than 1,200 USD per annum per household from these activities. Moreover, this area has a long period of time that has crucial agricultural region with high levels of paddy production, fruit production, animal rearing, and other farming activities taking place, farmers’s emotional and social relationships have developed over many generations with their daily practices and production processes. And these have been disrupted with arrival of the SEZs.
