In the present study ZHA administered chronically (po for two weeks) exhibits anti-inflammatory activity. It is really surprising, however, that there is a lack of correlation between serum zinconcentration and anti-inflammatory activity in rats after ZHA administration. Since the single or subchronic po administration of ZHA at a dose of 60 mg/kg [7] is not active in this measure, the present data obtained after chronic zinc treatment suggests that ZHA administration induces/enhances synthesis/release/secretion of specific factors (proteins) involved in (anti)inflammatory processes (probable from the gastrointestinal tract). One of possible candidate is cysteine-rich intestinal protein (CRIP), which is involved in immune function and zinc absorption [13]. This issue should be examined in the future studies.
