Barriers to cancer screening reported
by men and women from diverse ethnic
and minority groups in the United
States and Canada include fear,7 embarrassment,8
modesty,9 lack of cancer
knowledge and low risk perception,10
language barriers and the need for an
interpreter,11 decreased access to testing,12
and reliance on social networks
rather than the healthcare system.10
Modesty and embarrassment as well as
concern about disrupting their roles and
responsibilities as mothers and wives
have prevented Chinese women from
seeking medical help.13
