These figures also introduce a new, simple element of the steering system. When we use nonspecialized pieces to build a steering system, we'll use two pieces: a rack gear (show in light grey under the pinion), which is a 1*4-stud plate with teeth on top of it, ad a tie rod (show in light blue). A tie rod connect the ends of the steering arms to the rack gear.
