Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha wants state enterprises to consider cutting executives' salaries as a means of reducing losses, particularly at Thai Airways International. Government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the premier raised the issue at Tuesday's cabinet. Gen Prayut said THAI had tried to improve several aspects of its operations, but was still unable to reverse its losses. Thew prime minister felt the national airline focused too much on the operating level and the ignored problems at executive level. Some executives were paid 200,00 – 300,000 baht a month for doing nothing. Asked whether the prime minister wanted each state enterprises to review their own executives’ salary or not, Maj Gen Sansern said, "yes". Gen Prayut also said that after a year of rehabiitation efforts , some state enterprises have made little progress, especially on the personnel issue, so he would use his authority to implement plans, such as an early retirement scheme, in order to cut costs.
