The Volunteer Fire Service

The Baltimore County Volunteer Fire Service (BCVFA) oversees 35 volunteer companies located across Baltimore County. These include two volunteer "rehab" units, which provide food, water and other supplies to first responders during emergency incidents.
The volunteer companies are independent corporations that manage their own budgets, fundraising and company affairs. Baltimore County Government provides millions of dollars in grants and other subsidies to the volunteers each year.
Though volunteer companies are independent, private corporations, Baltimore County has a true "joint" fire service. Every single day, our 25 career stations and 1,000 career personnel work alongside volunteer responders at fires, medical calls and other emergencies with career and volunteer responders.
