We got inspiration to draw this painting from a natural beauty of very powerful and sometimes deadly microorganisms that surround us everywhere. The name “Pseudo-beach” came from the genus name of the dominating color used in this art – Pseudomonas . “Pseudo” means “not actually but having the appearance of”. These palm trees are not real, although they are alive, growing, and changing….
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common pathogens isolated in our laboratory. Due to its virulence factors and tolerance to a wide variety of physical conditions, P. aeruginosa can adapt to diverse environment and infect almost any part of the body.
Besides being powerful, P. aeruginosa is incredibly beautiful. Strains produce different types of soluble pigments that give bacteria natural colors: green from pigment pyoverdin , blue from pyocyanin and red from pyrorubrin.
In addition to being powerful and beautiful, P. aueruginosa possesses very unusual characteristic to microbiologist nose: it smells really good! Grape-like odor, pigment and metallic sheen are some features that help easily to identify this bug on the plate media.
