Adjustable slings being trialed
are placed surgically and then adjusted
as needed after the person is
awake. Conventional slings still in
use include a sling (synthetic or the
patient’s own tissue) that’s attached
to the pelvic tissue or abdominal
wall to obtain the correct tension. In
the bladder neck suspension procedure,
the surgeon sutures the tissue
near the bladder neck and ligament
near the pubic bone to reinforce the
urethra and bladder neck to provide
support and prevent sagging.
