Tarantulas are quite active in late spring in the Southwestern foothills and other parts of their range. They are frequently seen walking in the late afternoon and around lights in the evening. These spiders may be collected in a butterfly net and extracted in the manner of a bee (see Chapter 13). They are very excitable and to jump when first approached.
