A supplemental finding arose concerning gender differences in perceptions of and responses to physical assault by psychiatric patients. This particular finding is the focus of the current article. The findings related to gender differences were evaluated by two of the authors (L.B.M., M.B.C.), one of which is a doctorally prepared sociologist who is professor of sociology and co-director of the Community Research Institute at Molloy College. The nurses researcher is a doctorally prepared RN clinical specialist in psychiatric-mental health, who is a professor of nursing and long-term researcher in the field of violence in acute care clinical psychiatry.
