The MEF is divided into two main parts. The first of these is the General Directorate, which is, in turn, divided into three service units: the General Directorate of Reforestation and Erosion Control, the General Directorate for Protection of Nature and National Parks, and the General Directorate of Forest and Village Relations. The second of the two main MEF divisions is the General Directorate of Forest (GDF). The GDF is the most active organization overseeing the local management and operation of all forest resources in Turkey, whereas the administrative entities at the central core of the MEF are more responsible for the coordination between the organizations that control environment and forestry.
