The cash box was located underneath the laser
scanner. As the use of cash box was comparatively
infrequent, the extra movement of the cashier to open
it, and its lower height than recommended, was a trade
off against the twisting of the torso in the previous
arrangement. The electronic price display unit was
located on the right side of the cashier at the correct
viewing angle. The current hardware supported only
one display unit. Its orientation was the best available
compromise to ensure its visibility for both the cashiers
and the customers. The clearance dimension at elbow
level for the 95th percentile (female) cashiers (Table 4)
was used to locate the keyboard. The height of the
keyboard was set according to the corrected elbow level
of the cashiers.
