Even though there was considerable literature demonstrating the significant associations
between each of these four categories of variables and innovation adoption, there has been
little research to date examining these relationships in the public health setting in Ontario
and Canada. Since the utilization of research evidence and, in particular, systematic
reviews of the effectiveness of public health interventions is currently a pressing issue
among decision makers in Ontario, this research was not only timely but needed for guiding
future dissemination efforts in this field. The results of this study not only provide
direction for the development of a broad dissemination strategy but also make specific recommendations
required to promote research utilization for specific types of public health
decisions.
