Tsunami is a sea wave of local or distant origin that is an outcome from large-scale seafloor displacement related with large earthquakes, major submarine slides, or exploding volcanic islands.
The tsunami that ravaged the southern provinces of Thailand on December 26, 2003 brought great loss in terms of human lives, economics, and the environment. Thailand was applauded by several countries by how the country handled the situation, particularly regarding public health and generosity by the public. However, there are lessons that can be learnt so that communities will be better prepared for future disasters that may occur in Thailand. Until now, there are still problems in rehabilitation and social welfare due to lack of information and effective management.
