Electrochemical treatment of chitosan was carried out undergalvanostatic conditions using a two-compartment cell of 100 mLvolume each, separated by a glass filter. Chitosan (1 g of dry weightbefore sorption) was loaded in the anodic compartment. Pt wireswere used as a cathode and as an anode. The electrochemical cellwas filled with a 0.1 mol L−1Na2SO4solution. The solution includ-ing chitosan was mixed on a magnetic stirrer during electrolysis.pH value was kept in the range of 6.5–7.5 by adjustment with∼0.1 mol L−1NaOH and H2SO4solutions.
